Accusers were required to take an oath of secrecy or risk excommunication. Many priests were moved from parish to parish to avoid prosecution. In extreme instances, the Vatican would recall the priest to Rome and deny any extradition charges. Pope Francis has recently come under pressure to resign by a number a bishops and other Catholic Leaders.
